After 47 years of providing great service to the Ypsilanti community, Rutherford Pool’s bathhouse needs our help

The Friends of Rutherford Pool Board, in collaboration with the Renovate the Bathhouse Campaign Committee is kicking-off this community effort with a Patronicity Crowdfunding Campaign.

Patronicity is a civic crowdfunding and crowdgranting platform with a special focus on local community projects. Through Patronicity, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) offers 1:1 matching dollars to qualified public space projects.  When we raise $50,000 in donations for Rutherford Pool bathhouse renovations through Patronicity the MEDC matches it with $50,000 for a total of $100,000. The Renovate the Bathhouse campaign will run on Patronicity from April 15 to June 15.

A renovated Rutherford Pool Bathhouse for the Ypsilanti Community

If you have visited Rutherford Pool you have seen our aging and worn bathhouse.  What you have likely noticed are the cracked walls and floors, peeling paint and poor lighting.  But what you do not see is the failing plumbing, heating and cooling and outdated electrical and mechanical systems.

Through the tireless effort of pool employees and volunteers the bathhouse has been “patched” together year after year for over a decade and the time to address these issues is now.

Some of the 2017 Rutherford Pool highlights include:

19,000 pool visits including many special-needs community members

350 plus community members – from toddlers to adults—participated in swim lessons

Partnered with Ypsilanti Community Schools & Ypsilanti Library to provide free pool passes to youth

Held our 6th annual Kids Triathlon with the support of Ypsilanti’s Kiwanis Club
